This exhibition included many portraits of Hamilton, including one 19th century oil on canvas, a plaster copy of Ceracchi's bust of Hamilton, and facsimilies of artworks from a variety of collections. This is very likely the first time ever, anywhere, that this many Hamilton portraits have been exhibited side-by-side, together. This exhibition is part of the beginnings of The Hamilton Portraits Catalogue.
The event's program included a speech about Alexander Hamilton by the president of the Utah chapter of the Alexander Hamilton Awareness Society, recognition of Utah high school essay contest participants and winners by the Deputy Director of the Utah Department of Cultural and Community Engagement, and an introduction to the exhibition of portraits. A table of books about Hamilton and an 1804 newspaper mentioning Hamilton were available for browsing.
The event was organized by HamiltonPortraits.org and the Utah chapter of the Alexander Hamilton Awareness Society, with participation from the Utah Department of Cultural and Community Engagement.
This event on Hamilton's birthday coincided with the January 2022 production of the HAMILTON musical in Salt Lake City.
